1950's Basil Matthews "Nicky the Calf" Studio Pottery Figure, Welsh
#AD058 Wales Studio Pottery Cow Figure by Basil Matthews:
This is an English pottery Basil Mathews studio pottery figure of a calf named "Nicky", painted with delicate flowers and foliage in wonderful colours and clay brocage. A beautiful and rare classic small figural baby cow figure signed by Basil Matthews as number #50, and hand made personally by the artist in a limited edition.
The definition of studio pottery is that it is made by a single person from start to finish, compared with the term "art pottery" which may have a number of people such as a kiln worker, a pot thrower and a glazer, all working on a single piece.
