1920 100 year old Grand Hotel Tripoli Libya Art Deco Silverplate Milk Jug-WWII history
A wonderful old original Art Deco Silverplate Milk Jug presumably taken from the Grand Hotel Tripoli Libya hotel in the early part of the 20th century.
History: The Grand Hotel in Tripoli was originally built between 1925-1927. It was heavily damaged by bombings in 1942 and was demolished after WW2, then rebuilt. After the February 17th Civil war, the newer grand hotel now remains abandoned and closed as of 2018. The Original old hotel stands in an extensive open park which overlooks Tripoli harbor, not far from the Algerian embassy and Tripoli Cathedral, Jamal Abdul Nasser Mosque.
WW2 NOTE: The Original Grand Hotel of Tripoli, dating back to as early as 1920, appears to be included within a photo taken with Italian General Italo Gariboldi welcoming Erwin Rommel and Johannes Streich on February 12, 1941. Tripoli is the capital city and the largest city of Libya, with a population of about three million people in 2019. See photo of the old hotel included, found online.
Marked: Rubata Al Grand Hotel Tripoli, 20 cl, with engraved monogrammed initials. (cl=1 centiliter) see photos.
CONDITION: The condition on this piece is excellent overall. It was found in Totnes, Devon. There are some bumps and tiny dents, it was used and in people's hands, but is clean and in good condition, displays beautifully.
