1880's Victorian marked Ashworth Bros
Blue & White Transferware Ironstone Platter

#AD404 RL115

This a beautiful Ashworth Bros pink, blue, green, yellow floral flower pattern Staffordshire platter circa 1880's in a beautiful pastel blue and white pattern. I do not know the actual pattern name, and wish I did. It is made of heavy white ironstone china, and was made in Hanley, Staffordshire, England.

Condition: There are no chips, cracks or repairs and the piece is in beautiful condition. There is a beautifully clear transferware Ashworth Bros mark on reverse, see photo. There is also a 4XD incised mark and a red tally mark of 1431.

It is overall made of a heavy ironstone, very clean with a gold gilt rim, some wear on that gilt paint on rim from hand use.

History:
This printed mark was introduced c.1880
This example does NOT have the word "ENGLAND" and was therefore made before 1891.

G L ASHWORTH & BROS (LTD)

In 1968 renamed Mason's Ironstone China Ltd: Messrs Ashworth possess the original Mason Ironstone designs and moulds and have produced 'Mason's Ironstone' to a considerable extent, sometimes re-using the Mason printed marks.

A beautiful old piece, found in Devon.
