1880 Chinoiserie Flower George Jones? 5 inch Porcelain Lustre Milk Jug
#AD348: 1880's Victorian Chinoiserie Porcelain Pitcher or jug
This is a beautiful oriental themed jug in excellent clean condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. I am showing the jug with a thimble in photo to exhibit relative size. This unmarked Victorian jug was found with years old personal handwritten sticker on the reverse. It stated that it was a "George Jones & Son" pattern, although we do not know if this is true, nor the pattern name? It is unmarked.
After 1891, English wares were to be marked with the country of export. This leads us to the general 1860-80's era in our identification here. The pattern has tiny oriental grapes and a grapevine transferware motif, with broad swatches of beautiful hand painted color red and blue swatches and gold gilding.
See our close up shots. It is similar in nature to the George Jones Lilium pattern, with browns, greens, fuschia, blues, and leaves & stems.
It was found in Totnes, Devon, England. There are no chips, cracks or repairs . It has no markings other than old handwritten on bottom rim that we cannot decipher other than the words "40 pieces". Click images to see condition in close up views.
