1860's Hand Tinted or Hand Coloured Victorian CDV Photo of Young Girl
A wonderful and graphic antique English Victorian era 1860's CDV photo of a young teen girl, completely hand coloured before the advent of colour photography. The photographer is unmarked and unknown. Click images to see condition in very close up and movable views.
She stands in a studio setting, hand on pedestal, which has a wonderful old photo album on stand to her left. Behind her is an antique book case full of old books, meant to convey literacy and wealth. She wears a stunning robin egg blue tinted dress and Victorian era ringlets with red curtain behind, and green carpet below. A beautiful image. The reverse has written "hand-coloured" in pencil script a fine hand.
This old CDV image was in found in Exeter, Devon, England. The colouring is beautiful as well as the CDV composition. Many woman were employed as "colourists" working for early photographers in census records. This vintage CDV will be sent in a new rigid CDV sleeve. A beautiful and unusual piece, and one of a kind.
