1890s Striped Pink Orange Victorian Staffordshire Ironstone Fruit Bowl
#AD293: Large Victorian 10" Ironstone Fruit or Slop Bowl
Just a great old funky cool Victorian salmon pink and dark blue stripey fruit or berry bowl with a pedestal base. It was found recently in Cardiff, Wales. The bottom has a deep red iron oxide number overglaze tally mark that reads "X", otherwise it is unmarked.
The centre medallion at inside bottom is fine red flowers. It is simple and oddly modern in appearance, almost a bit psychedelic. We love it.
The condition is clean, click images to see condition in very close up views. The colours are a salmon pink orange, navy blue, red and white. The top edge trim is raised and embossed, see photos. There is some sign of use, as in very light use scratches in the glaze as well as firing marks and very light scratches, but really, it is clean, bright and very fun for a 19th century English piece, about 130 years old.
The glaze has a faint bluish pearlware type hue. The bottom of the bowl is white, the inside is decorated. It looks great displayed on its side in a cabinet. It also looks great with fruit in it to, as it was intended. Overall, it's a large interesting and bold piece we wish we knew more about.
Size: 10" diameter x 3.5" high
