1830's J & M.P. Bell Glasgow History of Joseph Child's Creamware Plate
#AD072: 1830's Scottish Creamware Children's Plate
This is one transfer plate in a series of 1830's vintage Victorian era children's cream ware plates entitled "History of Joseph." This one has the detailed transferware scene called "Pharoah Putting the Gold Chain on Joseph's Neck". It is in rich, deep dark black transferware print in plate center.
The plate has thickly embossed baskets, flowers and leaves on a raised relief decorative floral outer rim, a slight scalloped edge and measures 7 inches in diameter. There are no chips, cracks or repairs. The beautiful and moving religious scene for children is in the centre. It has the typical creamy creamware colour, and the reverse is unmarked, as they were.
This is an early 19th century Scottish Christian themed plate for children. It was found in Newton Abbot, Devon, England. We have 2 other plates found together with this plate by a different maker and different Joseph series from the Thomas Fell Company, and in pearlware. They can be found on our site. Click photos to see the condition in close up views. It is a very clean uncommon piece, and about 190 years old.
Size: 7 inches diameter
